The Future of Federal Financial Management

Lead, Transform, Deliver: Inside the 2018 CFO Letter

Within the week, Fiscal Service will publish its annual letter to agency Chief Financial Officers. Besides going completely digital, this year’s letter to agency CFOs is more personal, yet refreshingly focused on the future of government–wide financial management. The new direction of the CFO letter is a big step to engage the federal financial management community in revitalizing the commitment to American citizens.

If you have not already, meet Kim McCoy, the new commissioner of the Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service and one of the driving forces behind this new outlook. As she says in the CFO Letter, “teamwork matters.” Kim describes her approach to keep you informed and focus our collective efforts to strengthen federal financial information and interactions with citizens.

This year’s letter highlights a clear vision of where Treasury is headed, adding specific goals to optimize disbursements, transform collections, improve financial reporting and develop federal financial management leaders. It builds upon the recently published “Future of Federal Financial Management,” which sets forth a 10-year plan for all of us.

You will learn more about the FM Vision and how we plan execute it at the 28th Annual Government Financial Management (GFM) Conference on August 13-15th. Please attend many enriching sessions and stop by the FM Vision table to learn more.

We hope to see you at the conference!
